Toyota Corolla Sales Statistics and Global Milestones
Toyota’s historical figures describe the Corolla nameplate broadly, including all vehicles named Corolla. They are cumulative or historical measures and should not be read as current annual market totals.
| Measure | Period | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Cumulative global sales | Through 2016 | More than 44.1 million |
| Global annual sales | 2015 | 1.34 million |
| North American sales | 2015 | Approximately 411,000 |
| China sales | 2015 | Around 306,000 |
| Earlier cumulative milestone | July 2013 | More than 40.01 million |
Toyota also calculated an average of 5,850 Corollas sold per day from the 1.34 million 2015 total, using 229 dealership selling days. The company illustrated that pace as about one Corolla every 15 seconds; both are derived averages, not daily time-series observations.
Toyota said the Corolla represented approximately one out of every five Toyota vehicles sold since the company’s founding, using 44.1 million Corollas out of more than 230 million Toyota vehicles. This is an implied share from rounded cumulative totals, not a current-period market share.

Toyota Corolla Production, Markets and Geographic Reach
At its 2016 50-year milestone, Toyota reported that the Corolla was sold in more than 150 countries and regions. The distribution figure is historical and does not establish today’s sales footprint.
Toyota reported production in 13 countries or regions and 16 Corolla production plants at that milestone. The manufacturing count is likewise historical, so plants and production allocations may have changed since the page was published.
| Production measure | Scope | Reported result |
|---|---|---|
| Cumulative production in Japan | Through 2016 milestone | 26 million vehicles |
| Cumulative production outside Japan | Through 2016 milestone | 18 million vehicles |
| Global plants | 2016 milestone page | 16 plants |
| Production countries or regions | 2016 milestone page | 13 |
Toyota also estimated that 44.1 million Corollas connected end to end would stretch approximately 194,000 km, based on a 4.4-meter Japanese-market current-generation Corolla. It compared that length with approximately five trips around Earth’s equator, using an approximately 40,000-km equatorial circumference; these are illustrative derived comparisons, and body dimensions vary by market and model.

Toyota Corolla Fuel-Economy Statistics by Powertrain and Trim
The 2025 U.S. Corolla mileage figures are EPA-estimated or manufacturer mileage estimates for named trims and drivetrains. They are not guarantees of real-world owner fuel economy.
| 2025 U.S. configuration | City mpg | Highway mpg | Combined mpg |
|---|---|---|---|
| Corolla LE FWD sedan | 32 | 41 | 35 |
| Corolla SE FWD sedan | 31 | 40 | 34 |
| Corolla FX FWD sedan | 31 | 39 | 34 |
| Corolla XSE FWD sedan | 31 | 38 | 34 |
| Corolla Hybrid LE FWD | 53 | 46 | 50 |
| Corolla Hybrid SE FWD | 50 | 43 | 47 |
| Corolla Hybrid XLE FWD | 53 | 46 | 50 |
| Corolla Hybrid AWD | 51 | 44 | 48 |
The gasoline sedan range in this table runs from 34 to 35 combined mpg, while the listed hybrid configurations run from 47 to 50 combined mpg. That comparison is between the specified 2025 U.S. configurations and does not generalize to other markets or driving conditions.
Toyota’s 2025 Corolla Hatchback estimates are 32/41/35 mpg for the SE, and 30/38/33 mpg for the XSE, in city/highway/combined order. These are manufacturer estimates from the hatchback brochure.

Toyota Corolla Dimensions, Capacity and Performance Data
Toyota’s 2025 U.S. Corolla sedan specifications show a compact footprint with trim-specific differences in length, clearance, weight and fuel-tank capacity.
| 2025 Corolla sedan specification | Reported value |
|---|---|
| Wheelbase, listed grades | 106.3 inches |
| Overall length, LE and Hybrid LE | 182.3 inches |
| Overall length, SE, FX and XSE | 182.5 inches |
| Overall width | 70.1 inches |
| Ground clearance, listed grades except FX | 5.3 inches |
| Ground clearance, FX | 4.7 inches |
| EPA passenger volume with moonroof | 88.6 cubic feet |
| Cargo volume | 13.1 cubic feet |
| Fuel tank, gasoline grades | 13.2 gallons |
| Fuel tank, hybrid grades | 11.3 gallons |

The lightest listed sedan is the 2,850-pound Hybrid LE, while the heaviest is the 3,150-pound XSE. These are ranges across Toyota’s listed trims and configurations, not a single universal Corolla curb weight.
For the 2025 U.S. Corolla Hatchback, Toyota lists a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine producing 169 hp at 6,600 rpm and 151 lb-ft of peak torque at 4,800 rpm. The hatchback measures 172.0 inches long on a 103.9-inch wheelbase, has 84.6 cubic feet of EPA passenger volume, 17.8 cubic feet of cargo volume, a 13.2-gallon tank and 5.1 inches of ground clearance.

Toyota Corolla Safety-Test Statistics and Driver Assistance
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety tested a 2024 Toyota Corolla 4-door hatchback under controlled conditions. The results describe specific test scenarios and do not guarantee collision avoidance or injury reduction in real-world driving.
In daytime pedestrian testing, the 2024 Corolla avoided a crossing child at both 12 mph and 25 mph. In nighttime testing with both high and low beams, it avoided a crossing adult at 12 mph and 25 mph.
The system also avoided a parallel adult at 25 mph with high and low beams. In the 37-mph parallel-adult test, it avoided a collision with high beams and warned 2.5 seconds before impact, while with low beams it avoided the collision and warned 2.4 seconds before impact.
IIHS measured cabin and warning-signal sound levels as follows:
- At 24 km/h, background cabin sound was 52 dB and the audible seat-belt signal was 74 dB, a measured difference of 22.3 dB.
- At 40 km/h, background cabin sound was 56 dB and the audible seat-belt signal was 74 dB, a measured difference of 18.8 dB.
- The tested seat-belt reminder’s dominant audio frequency was 1,370 Hz.

Toyota Corolla Recall Statistics and Ownership-Service Context
NHTSA recall 24V-878 covered certain 2023 and 2024 model-year Corolla and Corolla HV vehicles in the United States. The notice is VIN-specific and does not provide an affected-vehicle count in the cited pages, so the model-year scope should not be treated as a count of every Corolla from those years.
The stated remedy is replacement of the steering intermediate shaft with a new one at no charge for eligible vehicles. Owners are directed to check a complete 17-digit VIN for vehicle-specific recall information.
The recall notice describes an administrative identification process and repair action, not an incidence statistic. A vehicle’s eligibility must therefore be established through its VIN rather than inferred from its model year alone.
