55 Toyota Hilux Statistics on Sales, Capability and Specifications

Toyota Hilux statistics span global sales, regional adoption, production history, tested specifications and market-specific equipment. The figures below distinguish Toyota’s fiscal-year sales from cumulative historical totals, current brochure specifications and laboratory estimates.

Toyota Hilux Sales Statistics by Region

Toyota’s fiscal 2024 integrated report gives a global series-sales view, using rounded thousands and Toyota-defined regional buckets. These are Toyota sales rather than registration counts.

Toyota-defined geography Fiscal 2024 Hilux sales
Europe 61 thousand
Asia excluding China 179 thousand
Other region 360 thousand
Global total 629 thousand

Source: Toyota Integrated Report 2024.

Hilux was the fifth-largest named series in Toyota’s ten-series global table, not a company-wide all-model ranking. Its 629 thousand units were about 6.1% of the report’s 10.309 million global series-sales total, calculated from rounded table values.

The regional distribution is uneven. The Other region’s 360 thousand units were 5.9 times Europe’s 61 thousand, a derived comparison that uses the same rounded fiscal-year figures and Toyota’s reporting categories.

Hilux also exceeded other named Toyota series in that table: its global total was 402 thousand above Tacoma’s 227 thousand, 238 thousand above Highlander’s 391 thousand, and 417 thousand above Sienna’s 212 thousand. These comparisons are limited to the report’s named-series rows.

National results show how different the Hilux story can look outside the global series table. Toyota Turkey reported 9,154 Hilux sales in 2023, equal to 54% of its pickup segment, and said the model sold approximately 6,000 more units than its nearest competitor.

Market or historical measure Result Period
Turkey pickup-segment share 54% 2023
Turkey Hilux sales 9,154 vehicles 2023
Turkey leadership Two consecutive years 2022–2023
Zárate Hilux and SW4 production 181,201 vehicles combined 2023

Toyota Turkey described Hilux as the pickup-segment leader for two consecutive years, 2022 and 2023. The release does not name the nearest competitor in the accessible passage, so the approximately 6,000-unit gap should not be treated as a model-to-model independently reconstructed comparison.

Toyota Argentina reported 181,201 Hilux and SW4 vehicles produced at Zárate in 2023; the figure combines both nameplates and is not Hilux-only output. Its historical release also says Hilux exports passed one million cumulative vehicles by 1978, ten years after launch, and identifies the nameplate’s 55th anniversary in the 2023 release.

Toyota Argentina’s national snapshot included 43 dealers and 91 branches. That is support-network context, not Hilux-specific service volume.

Toyota’s UK cumulative historical table through May 2023 records 9,344 Hilux 4×2 petrol vehicles and 5,924 Hilux 4×2 diesel vehicles. The categories and model years follow Toyota UK’s definitions in the Toyota UK LCV historical sales file.

Toyota Hilux Safety and Equipment Data

Safety-related numbers are highly market- and trim-specific. Toyota Australia’s current range page lists eight SRS airbags for both SR and SR5, while other equipment figures describe visibility and display features rather than crash outcomes.

Australian configuration Listed equipment or feature
SR 8 SRS airbags
SR5 8 SRS airbags
SR 12.3-inch connected touchscreen
SR5 double-cab pickup 360-degree Multi Terrain Monitor

Source: Toyota Australia Hilux range.

The 12.3-inch display is an equipment measurement, not a safety result, and the 360-degree monitor is specified for the named SR5 double-cab configuration. Availability should therefore be read as a configuration claim rather than a universal Hilux specification.

Independent safety coverage also requires careful scope. ANCAP’s Toyota Hilux Safety Rating & Report applies to the stated eighth-generation variants and build dates, with GR Sport excluded from that rating; the rating should not be generalized beyond those tested vehicles.

Toyota Hilux Towing, Payload and Weight Statistics

Toyota UK’s current brochure shows a consistent 3,500 kg braked trailer limit across its four listed powertrain columns, but payload and gross vehicle weight vary by configuration.

UK specification column group Payload Gross vehicle weight
Listed configurations, range 1,010–1,025 kg 3,130–3,210 kg
2.4 diesel automatic and manual 2.8 diesel — 3,210 kg
2.8 diesel automatic and 48V hybrid — 3,130 kg

The four UK payload figures are 1,025 kg, 1,015 kg, 1,010 kg and 1,010 kg. The same columns list 750 kg unbraked trailer capacity and 6,300 kg gross train weight in each case.

Toyota Australia gives a different market-specific spread: 2,900 kg braked towing for the SR 4×2 automatic, 3,500 kg for SR 4×4 variants and 2,000 kg for the SR battery-electric variant. These are listed ratings, not independent real-world towing tests, and actual towing depends on configuration and law.

Toyota Hilux Dimensions and Off-Road Statistics

The UK brochure separates cab layouts, making dimensions useful only when the body configuration is named.

UK cab layout Length Deck length Deck width Minimum ground clearance
Single cab 5,325 mm 2,350 mm 1,575 mm 227 mm
Extra cab — 1,555 mm 1,540 mm 289 mm
Double cab 5,320 or 5,325 mm 1,840 mm 1,540 mm 310 mm

Source: Toyota Hilux brochure and specifications.

The wheelbase is listed as 3,085 mm for single-, double- and extra-cab layouts. Deck length is not usable cargo volume, and the double-cab length varies by version in the brochure.

Approach angles are 29 degrees for single and extra cab, and 29 or 30 degrees for double cab. Departure angles are 25 degrees for single cab, 26 degrees for extra cab, and 26 or 27 degrees for double cab, with version-dependent values retained as shown.

Toyota Hilux Powertrain, Performance and Efficiency

The UK brochure lists 150 hp for the 2.4 diesel and 204 hp for the 2.8 diesel variants. Torque rises from 400 Nm for the 2.4 diesel to 420 Nm for the 2.8 diesel manual and 500 Nm for both 2.8 diesel automatic columns, including the 48V hybrid column.

UK powertrain Power Maximum torque Top speed 0–62 mph
2.4 diesel automatic 150 hp 400 Nm 105 mph 12.8 seconds
2.8 diesel manual 204 hp 420 Nm 108 mph 10.13 seconds
2.8 diesel automatic and 48V hybrid columns 204 hp 500 Nm 108 mph 10.7 seconds

Toyota Australia lists 150 kW maximum power and 500 Nm maximum torque for its SR and SR5 diesel configurations. It lists 7.4 L/100 km fuel efficiency for the SR diesel specification, explicitly as a laboratory result whose real-world consumption may differ.

The Australian range page also lists 144 kW electric power for the Hilux battery-electric variant. Its NEDC test ranges are 315 km for the BEV double-cab pickup and 245 km for the BEV double-cab chassis, a listed difference of 70 km; Toyota warns that actual range varies and can be significantly lower.

These power, acceleration, efficiency and range figures belong to named market specifications and test methods. They should not be combined into a single universal Hilux performance profile across countries, trims, drivetrains or model years.
